Heart Transplant Survivor
Steve took a transformative turn on March 19th, 2021 when he received a new heart and a renewed lease on life. Steve is the devoted husband of Sonia, who stood by his side through the trials of heart failure, providing unwavering love and support. Together, they have navigated the challenges of his health journey, and Steve credits Sonia for being his rock during the toughest times.
Blessed with a loving family, Steve is the proud father and stepfather to five children and three grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way. His family has been a constant source of joy and motivation throughout his life.
Professionally, Steve has an impressive 40-year career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Defense Industry, with the last 30 years spent at Raytheon. His expertise and dedication have made significant contributions to the field.
Steve's health journey has been marked by resilience and determination. Born with a gene defect (TNNT2) that can lead to heart issues, he was unaware of this condition until 2018. In 2011, he experienced congestive heart failure, the first indication of his heart problems. In 2015, he suffered his first cardiac arrest, leading to the implantation of an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD).
The challenges continued in 2020 when COVID-19 exacerbated his heart condition, resulting in complete heart failure. Steve had to undergo surgery to have a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) placed as a bridge to transplant. Due to the pandemic, he faced these surgeries and ICU stays without the physical presence of his family.
On March 19th, 2021, Steve received a life-saving heart transplant, marking a new chapter in his life as a survivor. His story is one of courage, perseverance, and the power of love and support from his family.
